When you make the decision to bring a dog, cat, ferret, parrot, or ant farm into your life, you have a moral obligation to provide that pet with the utmost care possible. That being said, you also make the commitment that you will educate yourself on just how to do that. Your new companion may be with you for a very long time and provide you with years of joy and happiness...just how long may be up to you! Nutrition plays a big role in the quality of life we live. I think we can all agree that you wouldn’t feed your child chicken nuggets for every meal, every day, for the rest of their lives, so why would you do that to your pet? Is buying that 50lb bag of food for $18 really the right thing to do? Of course not! Those dried kibble nuggets are designed for your pet just to survive and not thrive. So why do we do it? Well, that’s a great question!
It can be hard to believe that all those big colorful bags in your local pet food stores are bad, but they are! Yes, some are better than others, but take the time to look at the ingredients list on even the “best” kibble bags. There are things on that list that you won’t be able to pronounce and what’s exactly in that stuff is what allows the kibble to have a shelf life of 25 years...YES, 25 years!! But it's cheap and convenient and most of all it's VERY profitable for those huge kibble companies. Do you think they have the best interest of your pet in mind? Let me answer that for you...NO they don’t!
They may, however, most veterinarians are not educated on the subject of nutrition. Their job is to treat and care for sick or injured animals. They are not in the business of giving nutritional advice. You wouldn’t necessarily go to your doctor asking for nutritional advice for yourself, and if you did, they would most likely advise you to talk to a nutritionist. Makes sense! And just to be clear, veterinarians are highly educated and do a wonderful job at what they are trained to do best, and that is to treat unhealthy sick or injured animals.
If you’ve read this far I’ve piqued your interest and that’s a good thing! Just to start, I guess the first question to ask is why RAW? The answer is your dog/cat is a carnivorous animal and shares the same DNA as its ancestry counterparts in the wild, so feeding a species-specific diet only makes sense. RAW is what nature intended. Taking a look at the genetic make-up of the animal will tell you what your pet is intended to eat. Those sharp teeth and nails aren’t there to eat salad. Cats are Obligate Carnivores and can digest and process meat, organ, and bone ONLY. Fruits, vegetables, and grain have no business in a cat’s diet at all! Dogs of all species share the DNA of the Gray Wolf and also are Carnivores, so they also can digest and process meat, organ, and bone but unlike the cat, dogs can have small percentages of fruits and vegetables in their diets and can be very nutritious for them in certain circumstances and only certain fruits and vegetables not all. There s no need to add additional supplements as long as the ingredient sources are of high quality. Seems complicated? Well, it can be and that's why we are here for you. We take the guesswork out of feeding your pet what is best for them with our complete blends. We are here to help answer any questions or concerns you may have...we love to talk RAW!
